Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first title after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet defended four initial break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
